Welcome to a new monthly ATC challenge.  The August theme is Song Lyrics!  Music speaks to us. It is part of our culture and our heritage, our religion and our history.  Song lyrics can touch us and get inside of our heart and our head. We learn the words to our favorite songs starting at a very young age, and we love being able to sing along whenever we hear them.  Music accompanies our life tracks.  We remember what music was playing at important junctions in our life –  like our first kiss or when we met the love of our life. There is a reason that there is music in movies – so we remember them more easily.

How many times have you listened to song lyrics and thought that somebody must be living your exact same life? How could they possibly know what you were feeling? Or maybe you wondered what in the world they were talking about? Either way, you paid attention to the lyrics. We remember every word to those favorite songs from our high school days. And those lyrics bring back memories and emotions from those distant days.

Music is universal. Every culture has music. When the aliens from distant planets arrive, they will probably have music too. 🙂

For this challenge I would like you to find some song lyrics and create your ATC around those lyrics. Please put the name of the song on the back of the ATC so we can all know what song was inspiring your creativity. This is going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!

ATC stands for Artist Trading Card. A little bitty piece of art created by you. Here are the rules guidelines for the challenge.

  • your ATC needs to be 2.5″ x 3.5″
  • you can use any medium you like (paper, fabric, metal, clay, etc)
  • you can use any technique you like (a great way to try something new)
  • art work is on the front
  • your personal info is on the back (name, location, contact info, date, title)
  • all skill levels welcome
  • this is a WTA – winner take all – so one person will ‘win’ all of the ATCs submitted (if we get more than 20 entries, there will be 2 winners announced)
  • submit one ATC (you get one chance to win with each ATC submitted – if you submit more than one you get extra chances – but make them different since one person will win all of them :))
  • you can’t win if you don’t enter 🙂
  • deadline is Aug 31st – you can drop it off if you are local or mail it to the address below

I’d like it if you could include your city, state and country on the back side of your ATC. We have several Int’l participants as well as people from all over the USA, and I know they would love it if they knew where you were from. We don’t all know each other personally, so the info you provide is greatly appreciated. Another idea is to include your email or blog address as well. It’s not necessary, but nice for the winner to have in case they would like to contact you.

I hope you will join the fun of the monthly ATC challenge. It is a great opportunity to try something  new and play with  mixed media techniques. You only need to make one little itty bitty ATC, so it is really easy to complete. Get your friends to join the fun too. The more the merrier. And the challenge is open to All Skill Levels. Don’t be afraid to enter even if you haven’t ever made an ATC before. You have to start somewhere!

So the August theme is Song Lyrics and I know there will be a lot of great entries for this theme. I’m excited to explore this theme. It seems like there are lots of options for creativity with this theme. For those of you who like to plan ahead, the September theme is Vintage!   Have fun!

The July ATC challenge was SAFARI, and the photos of all the participants and the winner will be posted in a few days. I enjoyed the Safari challenge and can’t wait to share the results of the challenge with you.  Thanks to everyone  for sending in all of your beautiful works of art and sharing a little bit of your creativity with the rest of us. 🙂

I couldn’t send the Safari ATC, too much going on again and the time just flew so fast. But hopefully I’ll be able to make the music themed one. I love the theme.
